Unique Maine Engagement Portraits, Acadia National Park | Amilie & Matt
When I met Amilie and Matt for the first time, they mentioned that they were keen to do their engagement portraits on the ocean on Mount Desert Island, preferably on a variety of bell buoys. I was intrigued, so I said, “yeah! Provide the boat and we’ll do it!” We met up last week at Amilie and Matt’s house, and as we headed to meet her sister and maid-of-honor, Maggie, who would be manning our boat, she casually mentioned her fear of bell buoys.
I paused, and said, “wait. Amilie. You’re afraid of bell buoys, but you want to do your entire engagement session ON THEM??”
She laughed, and said something along the lines of, “I though they’d make for really cool photos!” Amilie went to school for photography, and I knew she had a vision in her mind of what she wanted, so we continued forward, despite the fear. Suddenly, Amilie and Matt’s engagement session felt even more epic. What would happen? Would she overcome her phobia of bell buoys?
I’ll share more throughout the blog, but I thought I’d start out with this image, which is my favorite of our session. Can these two be any more adorable? Can you believe she was ever afraid? Spoiler alert– she conquered her fear!
A special thanks is in order for Maggie, Amilie’s sister, who manned our boat with ease and expertly maneuvered it around the bell buoys when I needed a different angle. I can’t wait to see you again on Amilie and Matt’s wedding day, Maggie!
It turned out that doing portraits on bell buoys was a difficult feat. Not only would they twirl around, but the bells were loud, so there was a lot of yelling on my behalf. But was it worth it? YES.
We headed next to a little white buoy that had just enough space on one side for the two of them. The two of them just laughed and giggled the entire time. If they were this adorable during their session… I can’t wait to see what they’ll be like on their wedding day!
Maggie asked if I wanted to take some photos of Amilie and Matt on the cliffs near the white buoy. Did I? YES.
After we did the red buoy (the image at the top of this blog post), we headed off the water to do a few last minute portraits as the sun went down.
And, of course, since there was a pretty sunset, a silhouette portrait was in order!
I had so much fun with you, Amilie and Matt! I’m so glad I don’t have to wait long for your September wedding at the Harris Igloo Barn in Tremont, Maine!
