Emma & Kristof’s Point Lookout Maine Wedding
I’ve known Emma for what feels like forever- even though she’s four years younger than I am, we both competed in springboard diving. Even though we were never on the high school team together, I’d see her at Y practices, the yearly camp at our local university, and when I became a swim official and judge in college, I’d sometimes get to score her dives. I lost touch with her as she went off to college, but it was thrilling to receive an email from her last year, asking if I would be available to photograph her wedding. Yes, of course- I wouldn’t miss it for the world! I couldn’t wait to meet her fiance, Kristof, and when I got to do so, a few days before Christmas over coffee, I could see why the two of them fell for each other, and afterwards was even more excited about their wedding day at Point Lookout.
Before the wedding day, I had joked to Ashley, my second photographer, that this wedding would surely run precisely on time- Emma, a fellow type A gal, would make sure it did. But what I didn’t expect is how it actually ran early. When I arrived, she was ready to put on her dress and get the wedding day going, and since her and Kristof had been so efficient with their time, we were able to do their first look a full half hour early. Success! It ended up being a good thing that we did, as it ended up raining later. Even though the ceremony was moved inside due to the rain and chill in the air, Emma and Kristof’s mood never wavered- they were both so happy to be getting married, even if it didn’t include Point Lookout’s signature, stunning view.
The rest of the night passed in a blur. Kristof and Emma pulled off a choreographed first dance that made them look like professional dancers (Emma, smartly, had practiced while wearing an old prom dress), and after several sweet toasts and emotional parent dances, my favorite part of their night began- the dance floor. And oh, their friends were very much ready to celebrate Kristof and Emma’s nuptials. As Dave Dionne played just the right mix of music, their friends delivered, and Emma and Kristof spent a lot of their time in the center of that dance floor, holding each other ever so tenderly.
Toward the end of the evening, Let it Go began to play, an apt choice due to Kristof’s name and blond hair, and they reprised some of their amazing dance moves, much to the delight of their friends and family. And while their first dance had been wonderful, there was something about their Let it Go dance that really resonated with me- their joy was palpable.
