Wes & Martha’s Intimate Mount Desert Island Wedding
Martha contacted me within days of being proposed to, even prior to setting a wedding date, which was pretty fantastic and the ultimate compliment! She’d been following me since I photographed Amilie and Matt’s wedding (who just celebrated their 8 year anniversary yesterday!) and had always wanted me to photograph her wedding, so I was so happy to share my availability with her and Wes and put their wedding on my calendar. They wanted to have an intimate wedding, as they weren’t sure what COVID would look like that summer, and aim to have a bigger party in 2022 (which I get to photograph as well!), and so their wedding this year consisted of just six guests and of course two very very cute pups named Schatze and Stanley. It was a relaxed day, headed by the ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC PLANNER, Rachel Sisson of RL Sisson Events (she’s who you want for MDI events!, and started with pampering by Echo Salon and the new to the area Bar Harbor Beauty (check her out!). The weather was a bit concerning as we transitioned to the ceremony, where clouds loomed dark and heavy over Thuya Dock, but a couple of sprinkles blessed Martha and Wes’ ceremony, and the dark clouds quickly passed, yielding to sunny skies. After their ceremony was completed and everyone celebrated with a toast, we were greeted by Sail Acadia‘s Elizabeth T, and we hopped aboard for a cruise, where everyone pointed out seals and lighthouses and sipped champagne. Finally, we returned back to a private residence in Seal Harbor, where Clark Point Catering (a relatively new caterer on the island- Huyen Tran’s food is mouthwatering and the presentation is top notch. SO GOOD) wowed us all with tasty nibbles. Everyone sat on the porch, a beautifully set table in front of them, and toasted the night away as the sun set. Perfection.
Let’s end with a fun story. Martha, Wes, and their friends and family had boated to their rehearsal dinner the night prior, and ran into none other than Martha Stewart, who wanted to know what they had in the boxes they were holding (it was their flowers, done by the fantastic Floret), and Martha Stewart requested a peek (and was, of course, impressed). Once she realized Wes and Martha’s wedding was the next day, she wished the pair a happy wedding day, which is basically the best wedding blessing I can imagine.
Here are a few photos I love from Martha and Wes’ wedding day- enjoy! I’m looking forward to celebrating with the two of you again next year!
