Jess & Alan’s Lamoine Maine Wedding
Jess and Alan grew up in different parts of the country- Jess in Massachusetts, Alan in Texas, but both always summered in Ocean Park. Jess worked at the Soda Fountain, and Alan, who nursed a crush from afar, would always stop by at a quarter to ten, as the shop was closing, to order a milkshake. The timing was never right for him to make a move- he’d be dating someone, or she’d be in a relationship, but Alan always felt something more for Jess, the ice cream scooper who he’d barely ever talked to. But the stars aligned in 2017, and the two quickly realized their extremely long meet cute was blossoming into something much more serious. Before they knew it, they were engaged, and planning a wedding at Alan’s parents’ property in Lamoine, Maine.
Alan, a Texas meteorologist, had one major request for his wedding photos- he wanted to make sure that the weather was featured in them. Of course, I thought! And then, before I knew it, thunderstorms were on the forecast for August 10th, creating some delicious, yet mildly evil irony. I thought the rain would miss us, but as I photographed Jess and her bridesmaids, I received a text from my second photographer, Ashley, who wanted to let me know that it had started to rain at the ceremony and reception site. And not just rain- it was HAILING. Amusingly enough, it was sunny where I was, a mere ten minute drive away from Alan and the ceremony site. Oh, the irony.
As I followed Jess via car on her way to the ceremony site, the rain/hail started to fall heavy and thick, and when we arrived, guests were seeking whatever protection from the storm they could find- under awnings, umbrellas, the garage, and inside the house. Alan, of course, was intently watching the radar, precisely noting when the rain would pause, start up again, and finally end. With Alan’s predictions in mind, we rescheduled the ceremony for a half hour later. And, not only did the rain end when Alan said it would, but the clouds began to dissipate and the sun began to shine right before Jess walked to the altar with her father. In short, it was clear- Alan is a fabulous, A+ meteorologist.
The ceremony chairs were a little damp, but nobody cared, as Jess and Alan were getting married. Lindy, their pup, stood by their side as they exchanged rings and even gave Jess a kiss during the ceremony (such a good boy!). Alan vowed to keep Jess warm at night because shiv-er-y isn’t dead, and the two fed each other blueberries in front of their family and friends. Their meet cute, it was clear, had become a forever cute.
The night ended with lots of dancing and blueberry pie. Alan even taught the non-southern guests the two-step, and it was clear that he and Jess had major skills as they tore up the dance floor with their quick spins and turns. By the way, if you’re looking for a delicious blueberry pie on MDI (which Jess and Alan served as their dessert), look no further, because Jess and Alan tried them all in order to find the right pie to share with friends and family- Colonel’s Restaurant and Bakery was the winner.
Here’s a few of my favorite photos from their wedding day. Enjoy!
