Amanda & Matt’s Bar Harbor Inn and Margaret Todd Schooner Wedding
Amanda and Matt’s wedding day, which took place at the Bar Harbor Inn and on the Margaret Todd, was such a thoughtfully crafted event that had so much heart and joy. In short, it was the perfect last wedding of my 2025 season!
Amanda and Matt started their wedding day at sunrise, where they met some of their guests for a dip at Sand Beach. While I didn’t join them for that portion of their day (although I wish I had, one of my favorite things to do during the colder months in Maine is to jump into the ocean!), they made sure to get a group photo. I joined them, a few hours later, for the tail end of getting ready, and after a first look in Bar Harbor Inn’s gardens, we gathered for their ceremony, overlooking Frenchman Bay. Erika Hewitt, one of my favorite Maine wedding officiants, proceeded over the ceremony, and she delivered per usual, with a heartwarming ceremony that made me love Amanda and Matt all the more.
Guests filtered inside Bar Harbor Inn’s Reading Room for cocktail hour, and once Amanda was bustled, we joined the festivities. We started with the usual reception events- first dance, parent dances, and tearjerker toasts, and I felt so much joy capturing their day. Since Amanda and Matt’s ceremony was at 11:30, I wondered- would their guests dance? I wasn’t sure- you never know how active a dance floor will be for an afternoon wedding reception. But I should have known, what with Danny DeBruin’s DJing skills, that the dance floor would be off the charts with energy, and I had plenty of awesome dance moves to capture.
Upon the end of Amanda and Matt’s reception, we all boarded the Margaret Todd, an iconic schooner that you’ve likely seen before if you’ve ever visited Bar Harbor. It sails around the harbor every day, and it’s red sails contrast beautifully against the blue sky. For 1 1/2 hours, we all sailed around the harbor, and the sail was timed perfectly so the sun set right before we debarked. There’s nothing like experiencing Bar Harbor from the water, and our sunny, blue-bird day meant that we had the prettiest golden hour light, and it was clear that guests were enjoying cozying up under blankets and soaking up the view.
Here are a few of my favorite photos from Amanda and Matt’s wedding day- enjoy!
