Thomas and Sarah’s wedding, which took place on Nickerson Lake in New Limerick, Maine (right next to Houlton), was absolutely pitch-perfect. It was relaxed in all the right way, yet still had structure and a well-honed timeline that Gwen of Fiddleheads and Finery helped pull together (which was crucial, as their wedding took place at 3 different locations and featured two boat rides), which made for a day where everyone could focus their energy on being happy, and unencumbered with any wedding stress. There was so much joy seeping out of everyone’s pores that I felt blessed just being in the presence of Sarah, Thomas, and their loved ones. It was such an honor to capture their wedding.

Sarah and Thomas got ready in the same house- Sarah and her wedding party crowded into the sitting porch, makeup and towels and various clothes strewn comfortably around the space, while Thomas got ready upstairs. Sarah changed into her first dress of the day, and she, Thomas, and their wedding party hopped onto a boat, where we were carted over to the ceremony location. There, they hosted a preceremony cocktail hour, where they greeted their loved ones with big hugs, fanned each other (it was a very hot and sweaty August day), and at the last moment, Sarah changed into a second dress so as to provide a little surprise for her guests and for Thomas. Despite seeing each other before the ceremony, it was clear that they, and their guests, still felt so much emotion and joy during their ceremony, and I’m convinced that more weddings should feature preceremony cocktail hours hosted by the wedding couple!

After the ceremony, Sarah and Thomas took portraits, and then headed over via boat to their reception at Houlton Community Golf Course. After dinner and some very funny and emotional toasts (just look at their reactions below!), everyone wandered outside for dancing, which was wild, uninhibited, and a joy to photograph.
