Hillary & Pete’s Southern Maine Microwedding
Most couples take a year, maybe even two to plan their weddings- they get engaged, take their time selecting their vendors, and luxuriate in the engagement experience. Hillary and Pete, on the other hand, got engaged in June and, with the help of their wonderful planner, Anna, of Wed in Maine, planned a microwedding for their favorite people for mid August. I was brought on in early August, but had plenty of time to talk to Anna, Hillary, and Pete, to understand their vision, and to prepare myself for their wedding. I was especially thrilled that they asked every guest coming from out of state to take a COVID-19 test, and while it was difficult for some to procure tests, they all managed to do so. It really warms my heart when couples take such important precautions during the coronavirus pandemic, and it certainly doesn’t go unnoticed by me!
Pete’s family’s beach property on Pine Point Beach in Scarborough, Maine seemed like the perfect place for their ceremony. In fact, both mentioned, at the beginning of their vows, that Hillary had walked down the sandy, seagrass-lined aisle (the aisle she had just walked down with her mother and brother to enter into the ceremony) to meet his family for the first time, and how that had been an important moment for the both of them. The gasps of awe when they, along with their friends and family, realized how closely their vows echoed each other was priceless!
After the heartfelt ceremony, we attempted smoke bomb photos, and while it didn’t exactly go to plan- the smoke drifted directly to the right, it stained dresses, and they were unexpectedly hot- we still made some fun photos. We also had a safety plan in place, including a bucket to place the smoke bombs in after using them, so we were prepared!
We left the beach for Nonesuch River Brewing, where Hillary and Pete shared a first dance and were toasted, quite beautifully, by some of their favorite people. Rob, Pete’s brother, regaled Hillary and Pete with a amusing, yet sweet poem which had everyone laughing and tearing up.
What a day. Hillary and Pete, here are some of my favorite photos from your wedding day. Enjoy!
