Holly & Ethan’s Broadturn Farm Wedding

I have looked forward to Holly and Ethan’s wedding at Broadturn Farm for the past year because we had had the sort of initial phone call where I fell head over heels for them (and hoped desperately after that they would choose me to photograph their wedding), and upon following Holly on Instagram, realized she shared a lot of my philosophies in regards to the perfect wedding day. She and Ethan very thoughtfully crafted a wedding day that was first and foremost an ideal day for them, but also created a meaningful experience for their loved ones. And how did they do this? By hand embroidering napkins for each and every guest as a favor (they are stunning!), creating matchbooks as another favor (but, more importantly, displaying all of the customized matchbooks their families have had made and used for past weddings), and singing camp songs at dinner (as camp was an important part of Holly’s childhood). Also, the ticket to the concert Ethan and Holly went to for their first date ten years ago was even framed and on display. Holly and Ethan’s wedding was not just about the present and future- it celebrated the past and the journey the two of them and their loved ones had taken to get to their wedding day, and I found that approach incredibly satisfying and gracious.

It began to lightly sprinkle during pre ceremony family portraits, and the decision was made to move the ceremony into the barn at Broadturn Farm. While this would have upset many couples, Holly and Ethan were perfectly happy to change plans last minute. It turned out to be an excellent decision, as the light in that barn, as you’ll see, was spectacular.

While there were many special moments during their wedding day, as you’ll see, the final moment of magic occurred minutes before my photo coverage ended, when Ethan somersaulted on the dance floor.. and then somersaulted several more times! Turns out Ethan has practiced Akido and utilizes it on dance floors, but let me tell you, I was very excited when he gifted me with that magic.

Here are a few of my favorite photos from Ethan and Holly’s wedding day. Enjoy :)
