My Favorite Wedding and Elopement Photos of 2024

Every January I go through all of the photos I captured at my weddings and elopements in the previous year and decide which ones are my favorites. This year, I started with 140 photos, and painfully whittled them down to this set of photos that I’m very proud of. While there are certain frames I’m sad didn’t make the cut, you can see the full blog posts of these weddings (I’ve linked to them throughout this post!)

As I wrote about each photo, I realized that many of these photos weren’t the typical wedding photos that you’d expect to see from a wedding day, and I’ve realized over the years that I’m particularly drawn photographing unusual, funny, and emotional moments on wedding days. I like to joke that I’ve seen it all on wedding days, but every year I’m surprised by the cool things people do in front of my camera, and these photos often happen because my subjects are being unapologetically themselves. I love that!

I’ve also always enjoyed capturing scenic portraits. My couples usually host their weddings and elopements in beautiful locations, and these locations often play an important part in my couples’ lives, so I always take a lot of care in making scenic portraits that show off the landscape they chose for their wedding day.

Here are the photos I’ve selected as my favorites from 2024. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! And, to my 2024 couples, thank you for inviting me to capture your weddings and elopements. These photos are possible because of you and your loved ones and I am honored you chose me!

Children of the brides look out the window as they await the Seal Cove Maine ceremony to begin.

Kids can be fascinating at weddings, as you never know what to expect from them. I captured so many frames of this family as they awaited Alisa & Megan’s Seal Cove Maine wedding and I felt this frame appropriately showcased how antsy they were as they watched guests arrive to the ceremony.

A bride and groom explore Mount Desert Island via boat for their elopement.

Alexis and Mike’s Acadia boat elopement was such a beautiful day- not only did the two of them elope on the boat, but they spent a few hours just exploring the MDI coastline. While I spent some of that time taking portraits of the two of them, I also left them alone at times, watching to see what would happen. This photo was entirely organic (even though it looks staged!) and the little burst of wind that blew up Mike’s tie definitely helped give the photo some movement.

A fun dancing photo at a wedding at Broadturn Farm.

What’s going on here, you might ask? Well, Ethan decided to surprise his loved ones (and me!) with an Aikido forward roll during dancing at his Broadturn Farm wedding! I’m most drawn to the unique parts of a wedding day, the sorts of moments that could have *only* happened at my couples weddings, and I think this counts as one of those unusual events. You should have seen how shocked and excited I was as I photographed this! Luckily, Ethan did this a few times, so I had a few tries to get this moment just right.

A bride hugs her father at her Bar Harbor elopement.

There’s something especially sweet about this hug that Audrey shared with her father at Audrey and Brian’s Intimate Bar Harbor Wedding. Most photos of hugs feature only one face, but this side hug let me capture the serenity both of them were experiencing, which made me very happy.

A bride poses for a bridal portrait in Acadia National Park on her elopement day.

The weather forecast was questionable for Chris & Nicole’s Southwest Harbor elopement in Acadia National Park, but quirky weather tends to result in beautiful backdrops and stunning light. While it was a bit breezy, with some light rain here and there, the skies were out of this world and the water a bit rough, making this photo all the more vibrant.

A wedding couple does a unique dip after their first kiss at their Bar Harbor Inn wedding

I knew that Jen and Kindle enjoyed dancing in their free time, but what I did not expect at their Bar Harbor Inn elopement was for them to pull off a daring dip after their first kiss! As always, I had my camera up, so I was able to capture this total surprise of a moment.

A wedding portrait of a couple at Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park

Corinne and Ben’s Acadia elopement took place at the very beginning of peak foliage in Acadia National Park, and so Jordan Pond was particularly busy that day. However, it pushed me to use locations at Jordan Pond I wouldn’t normally gravitate toward immediately, and I found some spectacular light at this spot (as well as a amazing view of the Bubbles!).

A wedding couple kiss in the middle of the aisle at their Sweet Pea's Cafe wedding

What do I love about this photo from Gail and Julian’s Sweet Pea’s Cafe wedding in Bar Harbor? Their loved ones are mostly facing their camera and clearly very excited about Gail and Julian’s union. I enjoy this photo more than the actual first kiss because of these reactions!

A bride helps a groom with a stray hair blowing in the wind at their Acadia elopement

Chris and Alison’s quiet side Acadia elopement was very windy, and during portraits, Alison tried to help Chris with his hair. While I captured many beautiful wedding portraits of the two of them, I love how this candid photo communicates a lot about the weather conditions and their general relationship.

A wedding portrait on a mountain in Acadia National Park

I’ve photographed couples on this mountaintop many times, but when Rachael and Ricky bought me to this specific spot during their fall elopement in Acadia and I saw how the golden hour light was beautifully pouring over a nearby mountain, I knew I had to create some quick couples portraits (even though they had planned to only share a drink with their loved ones at this time). The results were worth it, clearly.

A bride cries during her first look at Broadturn Farm

Holly was a beautiful crier and cried all day during her wedding, and while I had a few photos to choose from, I like how the light in this frame really highlights a falling tear as she stares up into Ethan’s face.

Kids dance at a Seal Cove wedding on Mount Desert Island

There were lots of kids at Alisa and Megan’s wedding, and so they of course rushed the dance floor when they had the opportunity to! I’m such a huge fan of dancing photos, and these kids did not disappoint in their enthusiasm.

A wedding couple walks to a spot so they can create a portrait in Acadia National Park

While couples are sometimes disappointed by fog, as it can hide beautiful landscapes, it can often create a romantic, moody atmosphere. All I did to create this candid portrait was to ask Jen and Kindle to help each other get back to dry land. I especially love the reflections and the tension in their almost touching hands.

A groom and his mom eat and drink during cocktail hour in this funny photo from a Broadturn Farm wedding

Ethan and his mom were so much fun to photograph, and while some photographers don’t like to take photos of people eating, I will on occasion, particularly if oysters or lobsters are involved. Is there anything more Maine than partaking in seafood?

Two brides pose at the edge of a salt water pool at sunset at a MDI wedding

The sunset at Alisa and Megan’s wedding was really gorgeous, and I’m fond of reflections, so this portrait easily came together.

A little moment during dinner at Audrey and Brian's Bar Harbor elopement

I don’t remember exactly what was happening here, but I find the photo endearing- the kiss on the head, Audrey reaching out to Brian.. it’s such a unique, sweet moment.

A bride gets ready for her elopement in Acadia National Park

Sometimes, the light hits just right, and I really liked how the light highlighted Rachael getting ready at the Bar Harbor Inn in such a lovely way. When I look at this photo, I’m transported back to this moment.

A bride and groom kiss on the cliffs of Acadia National Park

I purposefully framed Chris and Nicole so their heads and torsos would be within the inlet, and asked the two of them to embrace each other. I love Nicole’s hand and the small shard of light that is hitting her face, and the Acadia backdrop is particularly stunning.

Kids rampage around the getting ready room of a Bar Harbor Inn elopement

I wanted to create a photo that showcased how getting ready with Jen and Kindle felt. Their two kids had a lot of energy and excitement, and ran around the room while Jen tried to finish getting dressed, and while this photo might feel a little overwhelming, there was a lot of joy present in the room.

An engagement portrait taken at Otter Point in Acadia National Park

I’m including one engagement portrait in this mix because I was so excited with how this one came out. I carefully timed the water spray with Sara & Andrew walking up to the edge, and everything came together perfectly at their Otter Point engagement session.

A wedding couple walks into their wedding ceremony together at their Broadturn Farm wedding

Holly and Ethan decided to walk into their Broadturn Farm wedding ceremony together, so this incredibly joyful photo isn’t after the first kiss, it’s from their processional! I purposefully framed their heads in the doorway of the barn in order to make the photo cleaner (I love a good composition!)

A bride and groom play croquet at Claremont Hotel at an Acadia Park elopement.

Alexis and Mike wanted fun photos of the two of them playing croquet at the Claremont Hotel. We were running a bit short on time, so I suggested they each take a whack or two, and I lucked out with this delightful reaction from Alexis.

A bride hugs her mother in law at her Acadia elopement

The way Rachael hugged her emotional mother-in-law was everything! I love how happy the both of them are, it was such a joyful moment.

Two brides take a sunset row at their Mount Desert Island wedding

Those who have worked with me know that if there’s a boat present at your wedding venue, I’m going to suggest we hop in it for photos. I really loved how the sunset was reflecting off the water, so while I do have photos that showcase the sky, I liked this rippled sherbet-colored photo best.

Umbrellas open for a potentially rainy wedding ceremony in Bar Harbor.

Umbrellas had been placed on Audrey and Brian’s ceremony chairs just in case the rain continued through the ceremony. It stopped right before, so everyone began to close them, which resulted in this chaotic scene. I captured many frames of htis moment, waiting for the most decisive moment, and I was particularly fond of this one frame.

A flower girl leans on her father as he helps to put on her shoe.

This moment! The way that the flower girl is draped over her dad as he puts on her shoes is so silly and heartwarming at the same time.

A guest at a wedding wipes away tears with his tie.

I don’t often see men use ties to wipe away tears, but you have to admit.. they work. The toasts were emotional at Gail and Julian’s wedding, and this photo is proof of that.

A groom dances with his mother at a Broadturn Farm wedding

Ethan and his mom were so much fun, and were super animated as they danced together in Broadturn Farm’s barn. I purposefully got low as these two scootched down so anyone viewing this photo could better feel and experience the energy of this moment.

A bride stands on a rock in front of Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park for her elopement

I played around with a few ideas on top of this rock because the light and backdrop were incredible. While there’s a few photos I created of Corinne swishing her dress around in front of Jordan Pond. I love how the light is hitting her face and her dress just so!

Kids gather around a bonfire at a wedding in Seal Cove, Mount Desert Island, Maine

I love a bonfire at a wedding, and provided I have the time, I’ll always stop by to see if anything interesting is happening. It’s always more difficult to get good candid photos of multiple people, but I like how everyone is doing something interesting in the frame. I captured many, many frames of this group, waiting for the moment where everyone was doing something interesting, and I was glad when I finally made this frame.

A bride walks down the stairs at her MDI wedding in Maine

The house that Gail got ready in for her Bar Harbor wedding had beautiful architecture, and I’m drawn to the clean, angular lines in this photo. Even Gail’s dress is triangle shaped, as if it is pointing toward the bottom of the stairs. I’m a sucker for interesting compositions.

A wedding couple poses for a portrait in Acadia National Park

This little inlet in Acadia National Park was the perfect spot to take our final portraits for Alison and Chris’ elopement. In order to keep this photo from feeling too stiff, I had Alison and Chris move about for a few minutes until we captured this photo.

A flower girl is lying on her back and feeling overjoyed at an elopement in Bar Harbor, Maine

I laugh every time I see this photo. The kids at this wedding had SO much energy, and were bouncing around. I don’t remember how she ended up lying on the ground, but since I had been following her around, I was in the right spot at the right time to capture this photo.

The father of the bride hugs the bride after thair father daughter dance at her Bar Harbor Sweet Pea's Cafe wedding

I love this Sweet Pea’s Cafe wedding photo for a few reasons. First, I love this moment after Gail’s dance with her father, but I also enjoy how they’re centered in between the tent posts.

Someone checks the weather radar at a wedding in Bar Harbor, Maine

I enjoy that this detail photo tells you so much about Audrey and Brian’s wedding day- the date, the time, the location, the storm that was looming, and Audrey in the background (making it clear that this photo was from a wedding). This was the moment when we decided to continue forward with Audrey and Brian’s outdoor ceremony, and lo and behold, the rain held off. Yay!

A groom and his mother dance before his Bar Harbor wedding ceremony.

A few minutes before Audrey and Brian’s ceremony was about to begin, Brian danced with his mother for a moment. It wasn’t planned, it just happened, and that’s mostly why this photo makes me happy.
